Dr Jonathan Rice is a graduate of the University of Adelaide, a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons England.
On returning to Australia in 2007, having worked in the UK for 10 years and gaining experience in the non-surgical treatment of varicose veins using laser technology, he established his practice in Canberra.
Dr Rice is a member of a number of surgical societies and is a Clinical Lecturer in the Australian National University Rural Medical School.
Dr Rice is proficient in the management of a broad range of surgical conditions:
- Laparoscopic treatment of hernias and gallbladder disease
- Acute abdominal conditions eg appendicitis
- Hand disorders such as carpal tunnel disease and Dupuytrens contracture
- Malignant melanoma and other cancers of the skin
- Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
Dr Rice has extensive experience in the treatment of breast disorders and surgical treatment of breast cancer. He is a breast surgeon at the Canberra Private Hospital and National Capital Private Hospital, and consultant surgeon at Moruya Hospital on the NSW South Coast seeing the majority of the breast cancer cases in the area.
Dr Rice is a foundation member of the BreastSurgANZ subspecialty group of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He was the director of the Breast Unit at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital in Guernsey in the Channel Islands, and honorary specialist to the Breast Unit in Winchester in the UK.
Dr Rice is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Phlebology.
Dr Rice’s interest in venous disease has been enhanced with the introduction of endovenous laser ablation as an alternative to the more traditional surgical treatment of varicose veins.
Dr Rice is the only practitioner in the ACT performing this minimally invasive treatment of varicose veins. He works closely with specialist vascular sonographers to provide this service.
